Death Note + Alignment

I’ve seen a couple of comments on this expressing various things.

Real talk? My unsolicited opinion? First of all, these look great.

One of the things done here is to try to cram major characters into little boxes, each representing a specific alignment, when there may be no characters to fill a given box. For example, I don’t think Misa is convincingly chaotic evil. I’m not sure anyone on this chart is. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Ryuk in that position in similar charts, but I think you can argue for him being somewhere in the 4 lower right boxes, regardless.

Mello’s arrangement of the murders of the SPK agents, and possibly also masterminding Sayu’s kidnapping, bars him from a “good” alignment.

Someone else argued that L probably shouldn’t be on the “good” tier, and I agree with that – mostly. If you imagine that there’s a dot between the corners of Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, True Neutral, and Chaotic Neutral, that’s where I’d put him… or, to phrase it another way, Neutral Good sliding southeast to Chaotic Neutral. Chaotic Good is a little too Robin Hood, but what I described also puts him near Chaotic Good.

But don’t these alignment charts exist partly to stimulate debate?
