So there is an episode of The Twilight Zone that in some ways is thematically similar to Death Note, but here’s the thing:

This is the worst Kira scheme ever.

Watch it and see. There’s no detective action, very little charisma displayed by any character, definitely no dueling internal monologuerie, and no shinigami or magical notebook… so the entire thing takes less than half an hour. See if you can keep yourself from laughing when Crangle explains exactly what’s going to happen to the Bad People in his, um, utopia.

Do not bother reading the Wikipedia summary: it fails to mention why he thinks this specific fate for undesirables will reform society, and that’s where the comedy gold is hiding.

You’re actually trying to compare Twilight Zone and Death Note?

You’re comparing a half hour Tv show shot in the 1950s to a manga that started in 2003 and ran for three years.

And I’m not going to even start to explain how important Twilight Zone is to modern media (tldr it’s a fucking big deal)

Of course it doesn’t go into fucking detail of the main guys mind. I’m not even going to bother to explain every fault in your argument, it would take way to long

Fucking Tumblr.

Look up in the sky!

It’s a bird!

It’s a plane!

It’s the joke passing approximately 30,000 feet over your head!

(Psst, the idea is that Twilight Zone did the basic “obsessed protagonist getting rid of the Bad People” premise in a hilarious way – THEIR HANDS WILL BE TOO TINY TO OPERATE COMPLEX MODERN MACHINERY! – in 1962, a little over forty years before a notoriously long-winded manga with a glancingly similar premise, in a way that might contrast amusingly for fans of said manga. If you are familiar with both, they do indeed seem similar; the story taking less than half an hour to tell is a feature, not a bug.

BTW, The Twilight Zone ran from 1959-1964 – it’s not really a “1950s show” per se. Literally the only thing you got right here was the fact of its influence.

But since I don’t want 8000 more misguided salty reblogs on this, I’m just going to delete the TZ tag from the initial post.)
